The Reason I Forgot My Watch

I came back for my watch. Honey heard me drive up and was barking in the back yard.

So I went to the window because I figured Mike must be out there too, and I saw him out there. Lying face down in the grass. Not moving.

He'd taken too much. Or just mixed too many of the pills with too much of the alcohol.

Honey, licking his head. The smell of burnt chicken in the air.

I'd never used my cell phone to call 911 before.

I'm sure the neighbors got a kick out of watching the ambulance pull up. The whole dramatic scene. Me wailing like somebody gone crazy.

At the hospital, they were able to revive him. Thank God.

I guess I'm relieved. There's a reason things happen. There's a reason I forgot my watch.

I moved back in yesterday. And I told him I won't leave again.
